I’m happy to release my first public Wordpress theme Equilibrium, which is aimed at those who want a clean and simple magazine styled blog. Plugins are not required and widgets are supported.
The theme is released under the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 License. Which means you can use it for whatever you want. However, you must keep the Made By On link and credit in the footer and must not sell or redistribute the theme without my permission.

the CSS has a slight issue in FireFox 2 though
you’ll need to define widths for featured posts (.front-post)
cause instead of floating next to each other, they’re coming one below the other.

Awesome looking theme, but point of order – by releasing it under an Attribution Required, Share Alike license I most certainly do NOT need your permissions to release any changes I might make to your theme.

@Alec – From a quick look at your site it looks like you’ve duplicated the div id of the featured posts in index.php, try to reupload that page but only edit the lines stated in the installation notes.

I’m in the process of creating my own blog, and this theme is the perfect fit for the type of Blog i cant to write (news, day to day happenings in my home town, etc).
The problem is, the blog is directed at a Portuguese speaking audience, so it would be best if the blog itself, the menu’s, etc, were inthe language.
My questions are:
1. Is it permitted by the author to translate the blog theme?
2. Whats the best/easiest way to go about it? translating.
3. Is it a viable process or would i be better suited finding a similar looking blog theme but in Portuguese already? I’m worried it will be too time consuming to translate.

1. Yes you can translate it aslong as you keep the credit in the footer intact.
2. Not sure what you mean by that but i guess a online dictionary?
3. I don’t think it will take that long to translate – i’ve seen the theme translated into a range of languages already.
I have to agree this is a great theme indeed.
there is one peculiar thing i noticed, which pertains to firefox only (Firefox 3) the featured post title links are a little bit blurry, only when you hover does the link become clear, anyone noticed anything like this before, and ow i could fix this, i know it’s a minor detail, but still…..

In the meantime however, maybe could look into a small buggy I seem to have found : when you disable the comments for, say, an article, on the single page the sidebar is dropped to the bottom of the page.
(or maybe have I scrambled to much code already?!)

Does anyone know where to look to find the part which controls the mouseover colour on the featured posts. For me, the blue on black is hard to read – I’d like to make it white. Does anyone know where the part is to control this colour?
Look for .featured-title h2 a – You can then change the color there.

Thanks for a qucik reply.. The problem i am having is:
- I have installed the Page-Navi plugin for WP 2.7
- Inserted code into the footer
- Paging shows up but it doesn’t work correctly.
- – It doesn’t highlight the correct page in the paging navigation
- – On the homepage it doesn’t change content.
- – It always shows the paging navigation even when there is no other pages. It even shows on the single post. (I do have the option in Page-Navi Always Show Page Navigation? set to NO)
I did try it with a default theme, and it works perfect. There must be something missing in your theme. You can how it works at http://russianmuzon.com

I never designed or tested the theme for the plugin in mind, i may consider looking into it if for the next release if time allows.
If you really want it to work on your site any time soon, i can provide support on a freelance basis.
But i honestly can’t look into the problem with a certain plugin anytime soon.

I’ve a suggestion that could simplify the ‘featured’ loop code.
You can wrap the first while loop in:
(with a left margin of -25px), set the showpost=3, remove the second while loop and eventually change the margin-right property of ‘front-post’ class to margin-left.

I have this problem too. You can categorize things but it only shows 1 page, there’s no “previous posts” button at the bottom. This causes problems because readers just see the 1 page when they click on a category and think thats all you wrote.
You can for now change the latest posts to more than 8, this is what I did.
Go into the “index.php” and change this…
You want to change 8 to whatever number of latest posts you want to display on front page.
Hopefully Tudinh will reply on how to show “older” posts on category pages or even on the front page because I have no idea.

Just wanted to let you know I appreciate this theme. I’ve modified the thumbnail size to iPhone pic resolution (I will be posting to the blog via PixelPipe often) and I just have a simple question.
For the right sidebar, I want it to be up flush with Featured, not down Latest Posts. That empty space there bothers me. How do I edit this?
Nevermind on that, I realized I was editing the php code wrong and taking my third feature column out. I’ll go with that.
Also, why doesn’t this support some widgets, like Twitter for Wordpress?

I don’t see why you can’t add it to the sidebar.php or add it via the widgets?
Or do you mean building it into the theme sidebar? If so the reason for that is that, not everyone uses twitter so i had to take that in mind too when building the theme.

I’m not sure, i’m 100% with you.
Are there links within your post and when the theme pulls the post it doesn’t display them on the front page?
If so try to use the exerpt function when posting and see what happens.
Yes Tudinh, that’s what I meant and your suggestion worked 100%. If you want links to display on your home page, then you need to put the text and links into the excerpt section.
This is especially useful if, for some reason, you want to have the featured content direct you to a Page.
Also, it took me a bit of poking around to realize that you can display a different image on the front page than in the post (or you can have an image on the home page and none at all in the post). I mention this in case anyone finds it useful.
Now I’m just trying to figure out why my 3rd bit of Featured Content is displaying under the first 2 instead of completing the row…
Fantastic theme Tudinh. (If you feel like making another, I know that I and many others (especially other performers) would really value being able to have highlighted content on the home page that is video and that can play on the home page.)

There’s no nudity as I wanted to build a site to spark curiosity and let the articles be the catalyst to something special. Again, thanks for putting together the template. If anyone interested the site is taoblinks.com. I tried to respect the theme’s design while adding a tag cloud and widgetbox.
Awesome theme, but it would be even better if clicking on the pictures also send you to the posts (currently it’s only the titles that do so).

I’ve managed to stumble my way around the code and CSS but can’t find where to change the embedded image size. I’d like the image to appear at actual size (I’m bringing it in from Flickr at 615px longest edge) but it keeps rendering at a smaller size 500px.
Does your code/CSS resize the image? or is Flickr only sending the file at 500px?

to fix the paging issue look at the index.php for the code:

where X is the number of posts you want to show
This is mentioned in the installation notes but is not complete if you want pages to work. Great theme which is now more complete.

This theme is great and I’m trying to implement it on my site. I’m having one main problem:
I can’t for the life of me figure out how the “cat=ID&showposts=1″ system.
How do I know what ID number a category is? And do I then put that number where “ID” is, or do I put it where “showposts=X” is?
If I want category “3″ to be the 3 feature boxes, what do I put in “ID” and “showposts=X”?

OK, well, I couldn’t figure out what the category ID number was for each of my categories. To find this out, I had to go Manage: Categories in my word press admin dashboard, and hover the mouse over the category. Then, at the bottom of my browser where it shows the “mouse over” URLS, it would show a URL with the category ID number. I don’t know how I would have figured this out without mucking about for hours. The category ID number that turned up for the category I was trying to link was “187″, even though I only have 11 categories.
That solves the “Cat=ID” part of the equation, where in my case “187″ would be entered where “ID” is. I haven’t gotten as far to understand what the “showposts=1″ actually does.

how do you change the header with image?
I just uploaded the theme but have 3 questions:
1) Next/Previous Page
2) I would like to include a Home key (next to About etc). How do I do that?
3) I want the text to be 5 lines only. I changed in the editor but it does not work. Where should I change it please?

Great work! An amazing theme. I’m wondering how I would be able to add a image in the Top. Just tried to insert one by adding this code in the CSS for the Top:

IANAL or Barrister(?), but… You can’t release a WP template while deny the right to redistribute a modified version. The right to modify and redistribute is specifically guaranteed by the GPL license, which covers all WP templates as add-ons to the WP architecture. Similarly, anyone could buy a so-called premium WP theme, and do whatever they wish with it, including modifying and redistributing for free. Wordpress and templates that are part of the WP architecture are all covered under the GPL. You can look up the GPL FAQ here: http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-faq.html#TheGPLSaysModifiedVersions

Hi Tudinh. Love your theme. Just wondering, I’ve spent hours trying to figure it out but why is there a gap, maybe of about 20px between your tabs?
e.g. in the index.php page
just before the there is a gap with the header
and also just after the and there is a gap. I’m trying to close it but can’t seem to! any ideas?

We can only show the image excerpts on homepage for “featured” and “latest post” but not in category.

Anyone resolve the problem with page-navi? it doesnt work for me too. it is very interesting to have or page-nave or ‘previous’ / ‘next’ and the page of the post, to easy the navigation for the users.
All in all a very nice and simple theme.

Окликнувший меня надтреснутый женский напев напомнил мне крик одной маминой подруги.
- Ейей, – с готовностью обернулась я, накануне расплываясь в улыбке, – А с чего это одновременно сообразно имени-отчеству?
Только это была вовсе не мамина подруга. Смех медленно сползла с моего лица.
- Извините, – пряча взгляд, сказала женщина, – Вы меня не узнаете?

Женщине было лет под пятьдесят, у нее были некрасивые черты лица, тонкие губы, и одета она была будет безвкусно. С такими я обычно компаний не вожу, аль который для работе.

Однако плохо насилу не стало мне самой. В гараже вместо бедного умирающего юноши меня ожидал… десяток угрюмо молчащих пожилых дам в возрасте от болтливый лет и старше.
- Здравствуйте, – пролепетала я, охваченная нехорошим предчувствием, – А где…
Из строя женщин вышла стриженная почти «каре» эксцентричная особа в черных очках и вельветовых джинсах, явный не в себе.
- Ведь вас же по-хорошему предупреждали, – без всякого вступления начала она, – Звонили, деньги предлагали. А вы? Разве так трудно было пойти нам навстречу? Разве вы не понимали, где окажутся наши мальчики, когда их отчислят?!
Господи! Беспричинно это что, мамаши моих бывших студентов?! Коль так, то беседа довольно тяжелым – меня ведь не безуспешно называют за глаза поставщиком кадров для ведомства Паши-мерседеса… Ну, не умею я брать зачеты по-капиталистически. И кроме терпеть не могу, когда для меня «наезжают» всякие прыщавые юнцы. Это чуть укрепляет меня в мысли, что им со мной в одном вузе образовывать нечего.
Только это в аудитории так хорошо заключаться смелой и принципиальной. А здесь, коли честный, у меня затряслись поджилки…
- Я просто честно делаю свою работу! – принялась исполняться я, понемногу отступая к двери, – Извините, однако как же иначе?
Ради моей спиной крикливо лязгнул засов. Заманившая меня сюда лахудра понимающе покачала головой – мол, о побеге и не думай.
- Послушаете! – воскликнула я, теряя снисхождение, – Ну чего вы теперь-то от меня хотите?!
- Который мы хотим! Сколько мы хотим?!! – буквально взвыли престарелые мегеры, и, будто сообразно команде, набросилась на меня с кулаками.
Чувствовалось, что дрались они не часто. Только их было чрезвычайно много. Так сколько временно двое сильно держали меня за руки, остальные колотили, куда придется. Меня били прежде тех пор, покуда у меня не потемнело в глазах и не подкосились ноги. Наверное, били и потом, однако я этого уже не помнила…
Очнулась я от холода и сырости – кажется, меня окатили из ведра водой. Я лежала на полу едва голая, ежели не счислять чулок, туфель и мокрой разодранной блузки. Тело мучительно ныло, во рту ощущался привкус крови. Изрядно пострадала прическа. Только самым страшным была неопределенность, в которой я пребывала. То, что меня избили, я еще могла хотя как-то объяснить. Только зачем надобно было меня вдобавок и раздевать?
- Очухалась? – недобро усмехнулась тонкими подкрашенными губами та, кому я была обязана своим появлением здесь, – Ну, тутто продолжим…
- Который – продолжим? – тряхнула я гудящей, точно колокол, головой.
- Учить тебя, сучка ты эдакая! Чтоб неповадно было наших детишек маять!
В отчаянии мне захотелось драка за голову, и только теперь я почувствовала, что руки мои связаны изза спиной. Так, этого только не хватало…
- Согласен кого я мучила? Пустите! – простонала я, начиная течь в панику, – Вы меня с кем-то путаете!
Меня рывком подняли для ноги. Я лишь не заплакала через унижения, заметив в толпе мужчину. Его я узнала сразу. Это был помещик шиномонтажа, хронический пьяный и благодетель одного из моих бывших студентов. Теперь этот безобразный мужичок, точно вовек, подшофе, стоял около компрессора для накачки шин и, поигрывая его черным резиновым шлангом, нагло пялился для мои неприкрытые прелести.
- Шиш мы не путаем, Людмила Федоровна! – ткнула в меня узловатым пальцем в подбородок тонкогубая лахудра, – Давай, Петрович, покажи ей кузькину мать! Пускай вспомнит моего сыночка Гришеньку!
За моей спиной послышалась странная возня. Кто-то развел в сторону мои ягодицы.
- Что вы делаете?!! – в ужасе завопила я, поняв, что шланг компрессора вставляют мне в зад.
- Учить тебя будем, коза!
Тут же мощнейший затрещина около дых совершенно согнул меня пополам – это Петрович открыл воздушный вентиль. Из моих забота брызнули слезы, дыхание перехватило. Временно я с выпученными глазами хватала ртом атмосфера, мои палачи удовлетворенно потирали руки.
- Сколько, весело, госпожа Андрейчук? – ехидно спросила тетка в вельветовых джинсах, – А когда моего Вовочку в армию спроваживала, беспричинно же веселились?
– Следовать что?! – прохрипела я, – Я же ему такого не делала!
- Ты ему хуже сделала, – вкрадчиво пояснила тетка, дохнув мне в лицо алкоголем, – Ты его для два возраст без мамочки оставила! Давай, Петрович!!!
Петрович опять дал, желание так, что мои глаза едва не вылезли их орбит. Сообразно кишкам будто ударили кувалдой. Хорошо еще, что шланг под давлением воздуха вытолкнуло из моей попки, и это дало мне небольшую передышку. К сожалению, продлилась она недолго.
- Нечего пердеть тогда при всех, гадина! – злобно прошипела мать известного оболтуса Евгения Ефанова, пихая шланг вспять в мою задницу.
- Да который же вы творите?! – взвыла я.
Губы у меня тряслись, из отверстие ручьями лились слезы, и я нуль не могла с этим поделать. Но муки мои, похоже, всего забавляли озверевшую свору мамаш.
- Заткнись, я сказала! А ты, Петрович, качни-ка ей еще разок следовать моего Женечку!
- Может хватит качать-то, бабоньки? – засомневался Петрович, глядя для мое перекошенное лицо.
- Такой умница был Женечка! Такой воспитанный, такой жалостливый! – заламывая руки, продолжала причитать Ефановская мамаша, – А эта стерва…
- Также ваш Женя общий занятий не посещал! – в отчаянии выкрикнула я, потому который это была истинная правда.
- Не ври, сука!
Для сей раз залп сжатого воздуха был такой силы, сколько я не устояла на ногах и, густо рыгнув, осела для пол.
- Беспричинно тебе, вражина! – пнула меня в урчащий брюхо Ефанова и, довольная, отошла в сторонку видеть изза моими корчами.
Не успела я отдышаться, как на смену ей подскочила неопрятная толстая тетка в рейтузах, и тоже начала просить Петровича поддать мне «газу» следовать ее ненаглядного отпрыска. «Ой-ой! – с тихим ужасом подумала я, нервно подергивая стянутыми ради спиной запястьями, – Коль меня будут накачивать в жопу после каждого потерявшего отсрочку обалдуя, то я бойкий отсюда не выйду…» Самое обидное, сколько сын этой тетки, неказистый сутулый малолеток со комический фамилией Гопак, не успевал абсолютно сообразно всем предметам, так что его выгнали потом первой же сессии отнюдь не единственно по моей милости.
- … и вот разлеглась она тут, глаза бесстыжие! – кликушествовала тетка в рейтузах, потрясая накануне всеми моими узкими ажурными трусиками, – Выше Олежек в сапогах глину месит, а она на шпильках шастает! Чулки надела! Манду выбрила! Веревочку блядскую в жопу заправила! Тьфу! Ну-ка, газани ей, Петрович, в эту самую жопу!!
Впечатленный Петрович не заставил себя долго упрашивать. Я едва успела ощутить вибрацию шланга в заднице, как мои глаза вновь полезли из орбит. На этот единовременно меня мучили довольно долго. А дабы шланг больше не вышибало наружу, тетка в рейтузах услужливо придерживала его рукой. Печаль через распирания живота была несусветная.
- А-а-а!!! – истошно визжала я, ужом извиваясь для полу, – Не могу!!! Прекратите!!! Очень!!!
Через страха, что мои кишки вот-вот лопнут, я уже не пыталась писать гордость. Напоследок, Петрович не выдержал этих криков и закрыл кран.

I couldn’t see anyone posting an answer to the question of making Featured Images link to the page. This is relatively simple to do. Go to index.php and copy the “a href” bit of code that surrounds the “featured title” part.
In ‘Edit Below’ and ‘Edit Below 2′ make sure your bit looks like this:

for the latest posts, the image height should be adjusted to 123, not 118px. the math is wrong! the images get squeezed.

one dumb question — I wanted to display 6 featured posts, so I thought “oh copy the loop over and and tada i’ll have six featured posts” well in reality it did display six posts, but not six different posts in the featured category, it’s still the org. 3 featured posts, now just displayed twice … please help.
hey man u got to go into the index.php file and look for the showposts=XX tag and edit the XX to a number. but er… do it under the “latest posts” section not hte feature section.

BUT Can someone PLZ tell me how to change the logo! Its been hours, tried EVERYTHING and it’s still not working..
Every-time I edit the header becomes a purple txt link, links to the logo url, or disappears entirely. Can anyone just tell where and how to edit the script!??
Try it like this:
- Open “style.css”
- Search:
“h1.logo a{float:left; font-size:2.6em; font-weight:bold; color:#000; text-transform:uppercase; text-decoration:none}”
- Change to:
“h1.logo a{float:left; font-size:2.6em; font-weight:bold; color:#000; text-transform:uppercase; text-decoration:none; background-image:[IMAGE-PATH]}”
Changing “[IMAGE-PATH]” to the image path.

How to change header text to image?
Absolutely love this theme… the CSS is so powerful, but its great once you figure it out and tweak things here and there.
Kind of in two minds about the lines under the links in the sidebar… but they do look nice. except when you have a tag cloud! but then its just a matter of tweaking!

I followed the documentation to get the images to appear in the featured section, but they are not showing up. What am I doing wrong? I created a custom field as demonstrated, then what? I did some research and thought maybe I needed to display the custom field in the post? Is this correct? If so, what code do I write.

Love this theme!!! Visually appealing and clean. I’m also searching for a way to link posts to one another so if anyone else has solved it, let the rest of us know pleeeeeeze :} I have another issue too – the layout works great in Firefox but in Safari (and Camino) there’s a problem with single posts – for some reason the sidebar is down at the bottom of the page. It only happens on single posts, everything else is great. I managed to correct it by adding an extra at the bottom of the single post code and was ELATED to see the sidebar in the correct position on Safari and Camino. HOWEVER, it then screwed up on Firefox, moving the sidebar half-way down the page. I’ve tried all kinds of other “fixes” but none of them have worked. Any ideas? TY again for a super theme :}
oops I see the “/div” disappeared – let’s see if this works. It’s what I added to the code.

Have solved the problem? I can see perfect on FF 3.5 but incorrect on IE and others FF versions.

Yesterday I had a crash af my website and helpdesk could not restore the back up file. So I have started from scratch … my prob now is the following: when I click on he title, it does not take me to the next page. Any ideas?

When adding more they do not get aligned in rows of 3 but in rows of 2.

For missing link “Older/Newest posts” or “Next/prev post” on archive page (eg category), this is simple solution.
In archive.php after last I added :
Where, “Stariji tekstovi” is older posts, and “Noviji tekstovi” is next on my language.
Also, my permalink structure is just “name”, but it will work I belive on any given…

Tudinh, i have a problem with pages on this theme. On every category i get only the last 10 posts and i don’t have the option the get to the next page. What can I solve that ?

@Ian Carr – you must create a custom field with the tag “image”, where you can add the link of the image. You must do that on every post.

You have pictures, as part of a blog entry. So in your demo you have a picture of WALL-E, with “Wall-E review” just beneath it. Now, I have no problem adding an image to my text entry, or adding the text. However, I have absolutely no idea how you make it so that image appears on the front page like yours does. Could you tell me please?:) (I’ve included a picture)

Сделал ошибку, да, нужно было в магазине нормальном прикупить, но нужной мне модели просто не было, да и дешевле в интернет-магазине. А вот и уже сижу у разбитого корыта. Подскажите, что делать.

First let me say this is a great theme. One issue: For some reason my featured column does not allow three to go across the top and they align and a very random order. I have a question regarding the featured part of the theme.
I played around with the images and code a little bit.
Now the image on the featured section on index.php is streched, while the actual image on a subsite i linked to is more of a landscape image. So my question is where in the code can I change that the image on the index.php shows a none streched part of my original image?

You have to test this theme in Safari and IE 6, 7. Not everything is displayed correctly. It is fine in FireFox though…

I’ve had some problems with my feature columns and I solved it like this:
Because the width is to small (three images + margin) I changed the page-wrap to 990px instead of 960px. This you do in the stylesheet under cat. STRUCTURE. It looks like this:
#page-wrap{width:990px; min-height:100%; height:auto !important; height:100%; margin:0 auto -80px; padding-left:10px; padding-right:10px; text-align:left}
In the same sheet I inserted a margin-right under SIDEBAR so that your sidebar would line under your third column and in my case I put 31px like this:
#sidebar{float:right; width:260px; padding-left:5px; margin-right:31px; overflow:hidden}
This solved my problem. I’m not shure if it’s the best solution, but it works for me.

A question about aligning an image in the header for a newbie. I was able to get an image in the header using the code below. It works, but my issue now is getting it to be aligned with the rest of the site, and NOT float. I’ve tried tweaking the code but to no noticeable avail. Any recommendations?

Can anyone tell me how to set the ALT attribute for images? At the moment they are all blank. I can see where they are set, in the functions.php file, but I don’t know what to put in there. Ideally it could capture the title or caption that I entered when uploading the images.

I have two major problems with equilibrium:
1. I need to do a landing page and cant seem to make it work
How can I replace the index with the landing page?
and
2. ie6 and ie7 does not display images on my site.
What do I need to change in the ie6 and ie7 .css?

Modifying Equilibrium Theme to add more featured posts??
I recently installed the Equilibrium theme and am trying to modifying the index php file so I can display 6 featured entries on my homepage instead of 3. I deleted the latest posts section and the sidebar to make room for this, but when I modify the php code specific to the featured entries section, they either display as 3 rows of 2 entries (whereas I’m trying to get 2 rows of three entries) or the bottom row overlaps. Any help with this would be so much appreciated!

as many people say in this comments, i need to see older posts in any pages. I tried many plugins for this, but they don’t work. I’ve readed all these comments above, and I’ve understand that a pagination is impossible for now.
As anybody said here (on February 1th), I have another nned: i’d like to know how to display some Featured post without also adding them into the Latest Posts. I know that it’s possible, I see it in the demo, but i can understand how to do it.
