A digital home for a K-beauty rebrand, in three languages

Cosmax has led K-Beauty manufacturing for more than 30 years, developing & producing beauty products for over 4,500 clients from facilities in Korea, China, the US, Indonesia & Thailand.

After a full rebrand by Winkreative, Cosmax set out to replace its website with one built to the new identity and launched in English, Korean and Mandarin. We were commissioned to prototype the site’s motion and interaction, build it on a headless content management system (CMS), and take it to launch in all three languages.

A home for the rebrand

Prototyping in the browser alongside the brand agency turned a motion-led design into 11 core modules built into Storyblok.

We found the hardest part of the brief inside the designs themselves. The brand agency led Cosmax’s digital design work, specifying bespoke pages with hero animations, parallax and multi-step triggers, and our build had to carry that motion into production. The same site also had to be modular enough for Cosmax to update once it was live.

We prototyped the motion in the browser and delivered a working prototype to the brand agency, so each animation’s feasibility was tested in code. Storyblok, the headless CMS we chose, meant those layouts could be broken into 11 core modules, built so Cosmax could update content after launch.

Three launch languages

Korean & Mandarin joined English in the Storyblok build, with typography adjusted where two writing systems share a page.

We set out to serve a manufacturer working across five countries, and the launch languages followed from that footprint. Cosmax’s reach across Korean, Chinese and English-speaking markets meant the site needed to work natively in all three, so we built Korean and Mandarin support into the CMS, with each language drawing on the same module library.

The Korean pages carry English headings, and Latin type set beside Korean body text needs its own treatment. We built a solution that adjusts typography for English headings on Korean pages, keeping a single identity coherent across two scripts on the same screen.

Hosting on Cosmax’s terms

AWS Amplify kept the Next.js build’s automated deployments while moving it into Cosmax’s own Amazon Web Services (AWS) account.

Cosmax decided to host the site in its own AWS account. Netlify, where the Next.js build had been running, offered proven, simple deployment but sat outside that account. Other AWS services met the ownership requirement but needed more setup to keep releases dependable. We recommended AWS Amplify, which is built for Next.js and keeps automated deployments like Netlify’s. The site now runs on Amplify inside Cosmax’s account, with automated deployments in place.

Ownership extended across the stack. Storyblok contracts directly with end clients, so we transferred the CMS account into Cosmax’s ownership. For hosting, we prepared a code package and setup instructions for Amplify. What began as a build to the brand agency’s designs grew into a staged handover of a platform on Cosmax’s own account.

Impact

Cosmax launched its new website on its own AWS environment, giving the rebrand a digital home.

The official launch closed the gap the engagement began with: a full rebrand without a website built to carry it. Behind the launch sits a complete build, with every remaining page and component in scope delivered on the same Storyblok modules.
