Recess Capital
Recess Capital is an institutional sports investment platform co-founded by Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai and sports management professional Asser Malik. Dedicated to driving gender equity and capitalizing on the rapid growth of women’s sports, the firm required a digital foundation to match the profile of its founders and the scale of its ambition.
Architecting content-driven authority
Establishing publishing infrastructure built for fast updates today and ready to scale tomorrow.
An investment firm earns credibility through a steady cadence of thinking, updates and portfolio stories, and the site needed to support that from day one.
We engineered a unified codebase pairing Next.js with a custom, lightweight, JSON-driven content layer. Structured, well-defined schemas mean content changes flow cleanly to the live environment as soon as they are ready, keeping publishing fast and predictable at the pace of market opportunity. The architecture also deliberately follows headless CMS conventions, so a full content management system can be adopted the moment the fund’s publishing cadence demands it, without starting from scratch.
That same structure makes the fund easy to find and easy to measure. Server-side rendering means every page indexes cleanly, while a single structured source gives analytics clean traffic data, connecting what the firm publishes to who arrives.
Designing high-impact trust
Translating an ambitious institutional vision into a digital experience that earns immediate confidence.
Limited partners, athlete advocates and prospective portfolio founders form their first impressions within seconds of landing on the site. We designed the experience to carry both sides of the fund’s character, the discipline of an institutional investor and the energy of the sports world it backs.
Communicating the fund’s dual purpose was equally critical. The experience needed to balance a bold impact mission with the credibility of a serious investment platform, addressing institutional investors and the wider public simultaneously. This balance is most visible in the hero video, which captures the energy and momentum of women’s sports, and in the personal letter from Malala, which grounds the site in the mission to level the playing field.
Prototyping the brand in motion
Turning the brand playbook into interactive behavior through rapid, iterative prototyping.
The starting point was the Siegel+Gale brand playbook, which places the Recess Capital equal symbol, a mark of equality and balance, at the heart of the graphic system as a dynamic visual device used as a container, a background element or a frame. We took that thinking off the page and into the browser, prototyping how the symbol could drive slide transitions and shape text and image compositions, and testing card and stat modules that keep dense information clear while catching the eye.
Early conversations inspired framing the fund’s strategic guide as a series of playbooks, a format that extends naturally to future investments and was refined across two dedicated rounds of prototyping. Motion received the same attention. Drawing on the pace and physicality of sport, we tested animation styles from fast and blurred through to subtle and eased, settling on the balance now found in the site’s hero.
Accelerating market velocity
Shifting from a minimal web footprint to a digital asset built for long-term influence.
The project took Recess Capital from near-invisibility to a considered, dependable presence online, with content updates made quickly as needed and a clear path to full content management when the time comes. Recess Capital now has the digital home to tell its story, engage partners around the world and advance gender equity across the sports industry.
